From Stockholm 1912 to Antwerp 1920 and Amsterdam 1928, the Olympic Games became an increasingly elaborate stage for precision, ceremony, architecture, and movement. Stockholm arrived at a moment when sport was becoming more exact in the way it could be observed and recorded. Electric timing and the photo finish introduced new ways of separating performances that might otherwise have appeared identical to the eye. The stadium became a measured field where every lane, distance, jump, and finish could be translated into numbers, while the spectacle surrounding it remained intensely human. Antwerp followed in 1920, after the interruption of the First World War. The Games carried a different symbolic weight.

The Olympic flag was raised during the opening ceremony, the Olympic oath was taken for the first time, and doves were released as a gesture of peace. These rituals helped shape the ceremonial language that would become familiar in later editions of the Games. By Amsterdam 1928, architecture and ceremony had become even more tightly connected. A new Olympic Stadium was built for the Games, and the Olympic flame appeared there for the first time in the history of the modern Games. The stadium was not simply a container for competition. It became part of the image of the event itself, a fixed structure surrounding bodies that were constantly accelerating, turning, jumping, throwing, and crossing lines.

The Alchemist is a novel by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho, first published in 1988. It follows Santiago, a young Andalusian shepherd who leaves Spain after dreaming of a hidden treasure near the Egyptian pyramids. His journey takes him across North Africa, where he meets a series of people who shape his understanding of purpose, fear, love, and destiny. The novel became one of Coelho’s best known works and has been translated into dozens of languages around the world.

The Blue Morpho is known for its brilliant blue wings, created by microscopic structures that reflect light. At rest, the wings reveal a brown underside with eye spots, helping the butterfly disappear into its surroundings.

About
Papillon began with an idea I kept returning to: a serif that could seem to exist in two states at once, grounded and in motion. Its first life was Monarch, my first display typeface, drawn in 2018. It was finished at the time, but in hindsight, it feels more like a stepping stone, almost a fever dream of ideas I was still learning how to shape. I returned to it in mid 2024, hoping to find the voice I had been looking for all along. That was when Papillon began to take its present form.

Papillon was designed, engineered and showcased by Lâm Bảo. The typeface was released in 2026 and is manufactured by Yellow Type Foundry.
